What is Osteopathy?

Developed by doctor Andrew Taylor Still in 1874, and inspired by the original philosophy of medicine thought by Hippocrates, Still founded a form of healing which considers the unity of all body parts. Through identifying the musculoskeletal system as a central focal point of one's health, Still created a healing modality which was centred around the body’s ability to heal itself. The osteopath will use their hands to find areas of weakness, tenderness, restriction or strain within your body, particularly the spine. Through practices such as massage, stretching joints, articulation and high-velocity thrusts, the practitioner will carry out such techniques in order to reduce pain, improve movement and encourage blood flow.
